Too many questions

I have about 15 blog posts sitting in my head waiting to be written.  Some are still about Tasmania (gasp!) and so I should really get them down and be done.

But I'm not gonna.

Rather, I will pose to you some questions in hopes that you might have knowledge or wisdom that I do not possess.  Or in some cases, just answers.  Points will be awarded for style (and hair-dos).

1.  Why is Anne of Green Gables a mystic?

2.  Since when is there caffeine in A&W Cream Soda? And more to the point, why?  I thought cream soda was a kid-type pop.

3.  Why will children chew on everything in the world except their dinner?

4.  Especially non-edibles like hand lotion and chalk?

5.  How many licks does it take to get to centre of a Tootsie pop?

6.  Why are things scarier at night?

7.  How does postage work? I mean prices and such.

8.  Do Dr. Zhivago's wife and mistress represent the two Russian landscapes that he lived in (before and after revolution)? Discuss.

9.  Why is it so much fun to cook, but so terrible to do dishes?

10.  Do you have an e-reader? Is it worth it?

11.  What does my son mean when he babbles? Am I actually hearing the words I think I am?

12.  And why does he like octave intervals whilst singing?

13.  How long until I can enjoy a cup of coffee? Oh, how I want a good-tasting cup of coffee.

14.  Do you factor in postage when you buy things on the internet as part of the price?

15.  Why do people like horror movies?

16.  Would you like to finish the laundry?

17.  What is your favourite recipe if you're in a hurry?

18.  What is your favourite recipe if you aren't in a hurry?

19.  Would you eat sashimi?  Oh, how I want spicy tuna sashimi.

20.  What book are you reading now?

21.  What should we name our next child?

22.  How will I fit everything into the storage room?

23.  Why don't we say the "l" in "solder"?

  1. I don't have answers for all of your questions, so I'll just answer the ones I do have answers for. (Or more questions for.)

    1. Is she?? Since when? I don't remember that from when I read the books. But then, it's been a while. :)

    9. Cooking is creative - it's art, really. Dishes are just cleaning. Boo!

    10. I don't have a dedicated e-reader, but I have e-reading software on my iPhone. I still prefer paper books.

    11. Only way to know is to answer him, and see what he says. ;)

    13. I don't know if you have Kicking Horse coffee there (it's from BC) but it's amazing and they do a decaf that is quite convincing as real coffee. (Said by someone who desperately needs her caffeine in the morning.)

    14. Always. In many cases (since most online places I shop are USA or UK) it near-doubles the price. :(

    16. Only if you're going to do my dishes.

    17. Peanut Pasta with Garlic and Onions - ready in under 15 mins. (http://r3n3.net/2012/01/recipe_no_1_of_100_peanut_past.html)

    18. Confit Byaldi - not complicated, but has a long prep/cook time. (http://r3n3.net/2012/03/recipe_24_confit_byaldi_ratpat.html)

    20. Re-reading Leaven of Malice by Robertson Davies

    21. If either of my boys were girls, I wanted to name them Abigail. Jack (my second) I wanted to name Ethan. But both of those names are really popular/common here now, so I dunno.

    22. Tetris it.

    23. Don't we? I thought it was SOL-der? Like "soldier" but without the "Juh" sound. But I have been known to be wrong about these things.

  2. Very nice, Rene. You get 26 points and 4.3 bonus as I've always wanted curly hair.

Also, yum! Someone's going to play in the kitchen next week.

  3. 1. Perhaps her strong ability to bring characters from her books/poems to life and her deep imagination in the real world warrants such a title; at a stretch, it could be likened to mysticism: "Mysticism - from the Greek, mystikos, meaning 'an initiate') is the knowledge of, and especially the personal experience of, states of consciousness, or levels of being, or aspects of reality, beyond normal human perception, including experience of and even communion with a supreme being."

    5. I don't know, but next time I get my hands on one (yum!) I'll try it and see. But that also depends on your definition of one lick. Is it a defined time frame for how long the tongue is in contact with a object? What if you don't remove your tongue from the pop? Is that one lick? One person's lick, could be longer than another's. You would also need to factor in the saliva volume. The more saliva, the quick the pop will dissolve. Such a deep thought for a late Saturday night!

    6. Probably for the same reason you worry more about something, that you wouldn't worry about during the day. Perhaps because you're tired so your brain isn't functioning as rationally and quickly as it does when you are wide awake. Also, things are dark and you can't identify noises etc as easily.

    7. Not sure what you mean by this question!

    9. Because it's easy to get the dishes dirty... much less effort... than it is to get the dirt off afterwards... especially because it's been heat treated during the cooking phase!

    14. I don't buy lots on the net, but when I do, I certainly factor in the postage. Depending on which country it's being sent from and how accessible it would be just to buy at a shop and how much I actually want the product are all taken into consideration (as well as the price of postage compared to the cost of the actual item).

17 and 18 are too hard for me to think about at this time of the night... will get back to you if I remember!

    22. If you had me or my dad on hand, we'd get it all in there. As an example, just recently, Vaughn pulled down Amy's cot. I told him I'd be storing it in her cupboard. He didn't believe that it would fit. But it did... easily. I have "Hartwich" (maiden name) packing ability. I can pack a car boot perfectly. It's like a puzzle and moving things around until they are in the right spot so that everything fits in utilising all the space available!

    23. I do pronounce the "L" in solder. (how do you pronounce it - like soda with an "er" or sodder) (I googled and discovered it's an American/British thing - http://www.englishforums.com/English/SolderSodder/hlwln/post.htm, and also see you would pronounce it the latter way I suggested!)

  4. Woohoo, bonus points! Good to know curly hair is good for something, because frankly, I'd trade you hair in a second if I could. :P Also nice to see I'm not totally crazy in pronouncing the L in solder. I was worried!

  5. Isn't there something like that in a movie that we enjoy? ("too many questions") haha..looks like I'm asking you a few questions back!

    1. She's a dreamer...or just likes mysteries is one option.

    2. Why does root beer need caffiene either? Not all brands of it have caffiene? Is it a way for people to get hooked?
    3. & 4. Because they can.
    5. I am sure I don't know how many licks to the centre of a tootsie pop. I think I have tried, but it usually ends up getting popped into my mouth- so that doesn't count anymore as licks. My answer then will be: more than 7.
    6. The unseen/unknown is scarier than the seen.
7&8- you got me. Only watched that movie once, ever so long ago, and have really no memories of it.
    9. No "fun" /tastey result from clean dishes- and often there stuff stuck on or grimey/greasy and your hands wrinkle up etc...though I mostly don't mind doing dishes.
    10. nope
    11. "I love you"
    12. Playing with sound is fun
    13. Sept 23? ;)
    14. Sometimes. I like to look for free shipping
    15. No clue
    16. Sure. Let me hang that load out on the line for you.
    17. Not a recipe really- Peanut butter toast!
    18. Slow cooker soups...potato leek is yummy, no necessarily my favourite
    19. Not sure, but I think you have encouraged me to try some, in BC I think.
    20. The Help
    21. Not Marzipan. I once told you a story of a girl named ruby and her flying horse clara...rupert could be fun
    22. Pull out your favourite imitation of dad's indrawing of breath and go to it!
    23. I rarely find that word coming up in conversation- haven't really had much need to say it.

  6. as far as your coffee question: start off with a mostly milk latte-style and by the end of your pregnancy you will be able to enjoy a nice cup of coffee. Only one per day, mind you, but a nice cup of coffee nonetheless.

Names: NOt Max, Nadine, Katrina, Karl or Adam--you could do Klara or Sabrina or Eloise or Elise, Rose or Lillian (I like that one) and James would probably be a bad idea too. And Grandpa would call Penelope the wrong name all the time--not that one either.

As far as your storage situation, I'm sorry honey, It's NOT all gonna fit. That's life. And that's what the Sally-Ann is for--I have recently deposited 3 garbage bags full of baby girl clothes at the local one--and felt sad the whole time. I have run out of space for our stuff and have to weed through what is necessary and what is frivilous. I love you dear!

Um, and soldering isn't generally discussed in our household and if it is then I'm worried!

FYI--your boy really IS talking to you--the words are real--wait for it and you'll be having conversations in no time!

Things are scarier at night because you are more tired and not ready to take on the world as readily?

BTW--what scary movie did you watch this evening which caused you to post a list of questions to get your mind off of it? Hugs and love!! Ev

  7. 2. Since when is there caffeine in A&W Cream Soda? And more to the point, why? I thought cream soda was a kid-type pop. I don’t know. I am confused by that myself now… hmmm

    3. Why will children chew on everything in the world except their dinner? They know what their dinner tastes like and know less about how random people’s socks taste.

    4. Especially non-edibles like hand lotion and chalk? Craving chalk may be a sign of low iron…. At least I have been told that. Also lotion is smooth like a milkshake.

    6. Why are things scarier at night? Because that is when we go to bed and our worries wake up.

    8. Do Dr. Zhivago's wife and mistress represent the two Russian landscapes that he lived in (before and after revolution)? Discuss. I thought that they represented hot tea and bacon.

    9. Why is it so much fun to cook, but so terrible to do dishes? Because your mouth isn’t busy then. Maybe you should chew gum while doing the dishes.

    10. Do you have an e-reader? Is it worth it? YES. Between Trinity’s 17 books on mine and my 65ish. It is a lifesaver. I love it. Seriously. I am not sure you CAN marry objects…. Or should… but I would.

    11. What does my son mean when he babbles? Am I actually hearing the words I think I am? Yes. Yes.

    12. And why does he like octave intervals whilst singing? Because your face looks different when you sing them.

    13. How long until I can enjoy a cup of coffee? Oh, how I want a good-tasting cup of coffee. I am guessing 5 months.

    14. Do you factor in postage when you buy things on the internet as part of the price? I do.

    15. Why do people like horror movies? They like their heart to beat faster.

    16. Would you like to finish the laundry? No have my own

    20. What book are you reading now? http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Journey-Alone-Rising-ebook/dp/B006L958GA A volunteer of mine wrote it. So far not too shabby

    21. What should we name our next child? Vanessa

    22. How will I fit everything into the storage room? You won’t

  8. Fantastic answers, people!

Nell gets 16 + 3 bonus as she maintains having hair as well as a small child and hasn't succumbed to shaving it all gone for simplicity. Not that I've ever thought of that.

Nao gets 27 + 4 bonus for red hair. Ooh.

Effie gets 15 + 7 bonus for maintaining hair and three youngens and not shaving all of their heads.

Nessa gets 20 points + 5 as she's let me dye her hair before. Also, it's not that he craves chalk, rather he walks around outside with it occasionally drawing on the sidewalk and occasionally pretending it's a teething rusk. Easy mistake as they are the same shape (and I'm going to guess same deliciousness).
